FIREPLACE - need info on type to install in my 400 sq ft masterbedroom. Gas? Wood? DirectVent? Vent Free?



I like gas-only fireplaces, but are they costly to operate?
I like contemporary, minimalist "ribbon of fire" fireplaces (which look great), but do they give off much heat? (Heating capability is important to me.)


Answers:


1I have a vent free gas log fire place that puts off a lot of heat. The vent free is best because you don't have your heat (money) going up the chimney. Therefor it is not that costly too burn. Also the more BTU's the logs put out will generate more heat thus using a bit more gas.
In a smaller room I have a gel log fireplace. Unfortunately they are not for heat, but they give a great appearance. These are self standing and many of styles of mantles to choose from, and no installation involved. When you see on TV a talk show with a nice fireplace in the back ground, that is usually a gel log fireplace. To get the fire you simply set a couple of cans of gel behind the logs and light them. It gives off a great flame and crackling sound as well. Check out www.realflame.com .
